Bulgaria!

Oh, Sofia. That's Bulgaria's capital city; the place where my sweetheart was born and raised and where his entire family still lives. The rose (depicted above) is a prominent symbol of the country. We're headed there this summer (post Paris) and I couldn't be more excited to visit and explore. We'll also be spending some time at the seaside, on the east coast of the country.

(That's the Black Sea, in case you're as geographically-challenged as I am).

I adore Tiho's Eastern-European roots and cannot wait to learn even more about the individuals, environment and culture that largely shaped him into the wonderful man he is today.

  2. I had no idea! How exciting! I hope Europe is all that you hope it'll be and more. Now if only I lived near either one of your destinations so that I could just pop in and say hello. :)

P.S. Thank you for telling me about the video. No idea why they would privatize their video! I've put another one up: http://fourleafcloverblog.com/?p=2709

  3. Paris and Sofia this summer? You're so lucky, Kayla! I've never been to either but would love to visit. Right now, I'm working on some potential plans for Scotland.

  4. This is so cool! I took my boyfriend there last year and he loved it. He said it put everything into perspective and explained many things about me ("How can you POSSIBLY eat so many tomatoes and cucumbers?!?":)) If Tiho's family have a farm, make sure you try fresh veggies and fruit from there. I haven't had anything tastier, even from the local organic farms here.

While there, make sure you visit Etara, a beautiful historical village-museum. You'll love it! I am actually from a city right in the Thracian valley where they grow and harvest those popular roses. You'll pass through my city on the way to the Black Sea.

Alright, I'll stop here before I bore you:-) I just love showing my country to foreigners!

  6. paris and bulgaria?! oh what an amazing trip this is going to be! also, i like how your map still has yugoslavia on it. :) we like to tease our friend {who's 30} about all the things from our younger years which his girlfriend {who's 20} doesn't know about. you know, landlines, pagers, and the country of yugoslavia. good times... seriously though, what a magical time you're going to have exploring bulgaria!

  7. Maya, I will definitely be reaching out for tips as the trip date draws nearer!

Kim, ha...good catch! I didn't even realize, though admittedly, I was focused on the Bulgaria portion when I googled for a easy to see map. Told you I was geographically challenged ;)

  10. Paris will be divine, but I think I'm most excited for the Bulgarian leg of your trip-a wildly new place to explore, and you'll get to be the chic girl who knows all the cool places to go in Sofia!
