The Lives of Others
Yesterday afternoon after work, I spontaneously decided to veer a few blocks downtown for a bottle of cold brew from Stumptown Coffee Roasters. I stood at the counter and crunched my ice while people-watching through the window. I made up short little stories in my head for the particularly interesting-looking ones (there's a lot of colorful characters frequenting the Ace Hotel!). The building directly across the street is one of my favorites in the city, mostly because it reminds me of Paris. I always wonder about its white stone walls, and the lives inside of them.
When I got home, I sat on the patio, closed my eyes, and tilted my head towards the sky. Despite all the caffeine running through my veins, I felt perfectly still.

Oh wow, that building is VERY parisian! I love moments when you feel so at peace.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice little walk! I too got to people watch yesterday. I was at the waterpark, so as I sat poolside I watched some basketball on the other side of the fence at the park along with the many people right around me who were slso enjoying the water and sun. As I sat there, I did what it seems like we all do, I began to wonder what the lives and stories of all the strangers that surrounded might be lke.
ReplyDeleteWowzers, that facade is lush! And that cold coffee bottle - I WANT ONE too!!! So cool!
ReplyDeleteIgor, I save them and repurpose them as bud vases. I love the rich color and typography.
DeleteI love slipping into other people's lives for a moment. This sounds beautiful.
