Scenes From The Weekend

It was a weekend of opposites: sunny, hot & busy on Saturday juxtaposed with rainy, cool and lazy on Sunday. I enjoyed both immensely.

I bought a frame for--and hung--our Holstee Manifesto and snagged a bouquet of lilacs at the market. Lilac season! Quite nearly the very best, isn't it?

We went for a long, early evening ride on Saturday: I'm looking forward to turning it into a regular ritual, even though my helmet leaves my hair all smushed and sweaty. It's all good, so long as it does its job to keep me intact. :)

I found these awesome wooden birdhouses at the craft store and pretty much freaked out right there in the aisle. There were exactly 30 left, and at only $1 a piece, you can bet I plucked each and every last one off of the shelf and into my basket for the kiddos to paint and decorate to their heart's content. Preschool in the springtime is so much fun.

I spent the entirety of Sunday curled up on the sofa folding laundry, snacking on raspberries and watching "vintage" (season one) episodes of Law & Order: SVU (first airing in 1999!).  I managed to duck out of the house for an hour in the afternoon to brave a very rainy walk to the coffee shop.

This week is supposed to be significantly more chilly and soggy than it has been in recent days. I don't mind, so long as it brings abundant May foliage.

P.S. I've been playing City & Colour's "The Girl" nonstop for weeks now. It is excellent.

  1. Beautiful photos!
And good call on City and Colour. Little fact, Art knows Dallas. He's a super nice guy :)

  2. Our craft store had the same...$1! If I weren't moving, I would have snagged those suckers and used them for something fabulous. I'm sure the kids will love, love them!

P.S. You're so better than me. I don't own a helmet. It's bad, I know. I try to tell myself that it's okay since I ride only on the sidewalk in my small town...but I know my paramedic-father would say otherwise...

(sorry to shout... but seriously, girl...)

    2. Ha, I bought a red and white polka dot one to be stylish. There's a lot of cute styles out there that don't scream "bike helmet."

  3. I love lilacs, they are my favorite. They remind me of spring and childhood. Thank you for sharing!

  4. It sounds like the best of both worlds to me.

We have four big lilac trees and I can't wait for them to burst into bloom!

  5. Were the birdhouses at Michael's? If so, I should get over there right now and buy 20 of them for my kindergarten kids. They'd make a lovely little mother's day present...
