I am twenty-seven years old and I think Timber by Pitbull and Ke$ha is the best song on the radio right now. Upon arriving to my classroom each morning, I turn on the top 40 station nice and loud as I prep for the day.Teaching young children is a very particular type of teaching. In my humble opinion, you have to be a firm and consistent disciplinarian (I usually am) as well as a silly and uninhibited goofball (I'm that too) in order to really and truly connect with them. It's a fine balance, and one that never fails to keep me on my toes. At the end of the day, I want every child in my class to feel safe, happy, loved and understood. Bonus points if they master their letters, numbers, shapes, colors and the meaning of the universe.
P.S. Tiho briefly visited my class last week, and while sitting on the floor for circle time, one of my little girls leaned right into him and passionately proclaimed "Oh I just love you, Mr. Tiho!"
Kid, I feel ya.
