Why Birdsong Makes Us Happy
The extra long President's day weekend afforded me the first two days of the week free from any sort of obligations or commitments. I spent Monday in the city with my sister (lunch, movie, shopping) and Tuesday at home (cooking, reading at the kitchen table, a long walk around town).
In my precious downtime, I read about the psychological benefits of birdsong and felt both intrigued and hugely inspired. I'm excited for Spring and the regular return of open windows and winged singing in the mornings.
I've found that I'm unusually productive during the week when my schedule is irregular. I cherish this time, especially when it falls just before one of the busiest stretches of the school year. I'm grateful for the respite, and the realization that most things always seem to work out like so.
[Pictures convey simple joy makers from the last two days--breakfast for one; daisies in their prime; irresistible napkin set; noontime bedhead & pj's; magazine catch-up; and my favorite little friend. Plus, exceptionally gorgeous winter light].

wow! look pretty!
ReplyDeleteNot sure why this stand out to me, but that Adele photo on Vogue is SO photoshopped. She is so very beautiful and I just cannot stand the industry standards of making everyone smaller, grrr!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I hear you. I wouldn't have recognized her had her name not been there. It's truly sad, especially because she is so naturally gorgeous and REAL. I rarely read fashion magazines for this very reason.
DeleteWaking up to the sound of birdsong is one of life's simple pleasures, I love it. Also love those striped napkins. WIN!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more–a little unexpected time makes it easier to stay focused in every aspect. That, and the extra sleep!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got some down time this weekend -- you certainly look happy about it. I feel like my days off schedule are the most productive too, especially as I don't have to sit at work for hours...
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so envious of your extra long weekend! It looks and sounds SO lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd hurrah for the birdsong and the approach of spring. I'm so ready!
PS: Did you read my NYC dates in my reply to your comment the other day? They're March 21-26. Brandi and I are planning on a brunch date that weekend {probably the 25th}... Really hope you can come too!
Yes! I can come! I am in San Francisco March 17-22, so the 25th works perfectly. Cannot wait.
