Scenes From The Weekend
My house is so clean you could lick the floor. I have this weird thing about leaving my home in impeccable condition before departing on a trip. It makes the return all the more enjoyable. But, I'm getting ahead of myself, aren't I?
This weekend was the official start of my summer, with June camp wrapping up on Friday afternoon. After a day of house-scrubbing, Wimbledon-watching, French-practicing and inbox-emptying, Saturday evening found us faced with the choice of an outing to the local town fair or a viewing of Midnight in Paris. We opted to do both, with a yummy burger dinner squeezed in between. On Sunday, we met up with long-time family friends on the Upper East Side and devoured a delicious brunch at the the charming Sarabeth's.
As we drove over the George Washington bridge in the late afternoon, I couldn't help but feel a burst of pride for my sparkling city. The New York State Senate legalized same-sex marriage on Friday, thus providing a long overdue civil right to so many of my friends and loved ones. If that's not reason enough for celebration and joy, then I don't know what is. Let's hope this legislation gets the ball rolling nationwide.
In other news, we leave for Paris on Wednesday! I learned six new french words from my picture dictionary and am feeling mighty pleased with myself. Packing is still a work in progress. I'm having trouble narrowing down which of my twelve striped shirts to bring. What is wrong with me?

Paris? How wonderful! I may not have much computer time between now and your departure, so have an incredible trip. I really can't wait to hear all about it. And you always manage to do so much in a weekend! I was thrilled to learn NY legalized same-sex marriages. It makes me even more proud to be returning there. Have a great week, Kayla!
ReplyDeleteyay! you got to see "midnight in paris" before actually going to paris. now you know what to do on your trip. did you take mental images of those church steps? tell zelda i said hi. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely, stellar weekend! Hope you're getting uber-excited about your upcoming trip to Paris, that'll be a fantastic adventure.
ReplyDeleteKim, and it was SO good. Tiho and I couldn't stop talking about it all weekend. Ironically, I happen to be in the middle of re-reading some of my favorite Fitzgerald, which made for a pleasant surprise while watching the film.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I'm totally the same way about leaving my house clean when we go on trips. I am totally bummed if it's not.

What is wrong with you? Rien! One needs many striped shirts in Paris, after all! I'd say take at least three- you need red stripes, navy stripes, and black. All with white, bien sur...
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! Have you got your letter P luggage tag on one of your cases yet? ;~) Speaking of which, I haven't got your card yet, but Canada Post has been on strike for a few weeks now, so I'm sure it will arrive as soon as they're back to work (which is apparently sometime this week)
Love your photos! Will you post next week's Scenes from the Weekend in Paris? Oooh, I hope so!
That bagel looks so good...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics! I loved Midnight in Paris!
Wasn't an amazing weekend to be in New York City? So exciting!
gah. i am S.O. excited for you and your new french words. and for the record, there's nothing wrong with 12 striped shirts.
ReplyDeleteHaha I have to clean the house before I go on vacation too :-) There's nothing worse than coming home to a pile of dishes in the sink. The fair looks like it was so much fun!
ReplyDeletelovely photos, my dear. and so excited for you to get to paris, wish i was coming with!
ReplyDeleteomg what a fun weekend! and paris?!?! ahhh you're so lucky. what did you think about the movie?
ReplyDeletej.
on and YAY NY!!!!!
Ooh, I leave for Paris in 3 weeks and can't wait. Have an amazing time!!
ReplyDeleteFirst, is it possible that we're just one person who's been split in two? I need to leave the house sparkling so I can come back to a place as fresh and lovely as the hotel room I'm leaving behind, and this weekend featured a county fair and wine country, even if we did have to skip a showing of Midnight in Paris to fit it all in!
ReplyDeleteHope packing is going smoothly-just remember, there are plenty of shops in Paris!

I really want to see Midnight in Paris. Safe travels on Wednesday, friend. Hope you two have the most wonderful time! xo
ReplyDeleteI say take zero striped shirts & just buy yourself a new one on your first day in Paris!
ReplyDeleteDidn't you love "Midnight in Paris"? I swooned for about 99% of the movie.
Speaking of things to love, isn't it great that "chips" & "spaghetti" are the same in French & English? You're all set! ;-)
A clean house feels so good before a trip! Congrats on summer! And your trip is so soon! I'm SO excited for you! Are you going to be blogging while you're there? That would be cooool... : )
ReplyDeleteThese photos and your weekend look and sound so romantic! Must be the movie choice.. : ) That last photo may be my very favorite of yours. Good luck picking what shirt to choose - I think just about everyone is the same when it comes to packing, ha! And I hope my suggestions didn't overwhelm you and add to a much desired but not too possible list! I'm not sure if you'll have a chance to read much before you go so just have a blast! Be safe & happy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect movie choice before your trip! I loved it and surprisingly andreas did too! (we have VERY different taste in movies normally)
ReplyDeleteand coming home to a clean house is amazing after a long day of traveling to get back home. SO important.
I always love your weekend scenes, looks like such a fun packed weekend! Yay, Paris!! I can't wait to see photos from your trip and you totally need lots of stripes in Paris oui :) Have an amazing trip!

That avocado/tomato bagel looks delicious! It has me drooling now. Great pictures, in general! And yes, let's hope NY sets an example for the rest of this country when it comes to gay marriage!
