Things I Like Right Now

I don't know what it is about this time of year, but I'm feeling especially greedy for ALL OF THE THINGS. Actually, I can identify the culprit: nesting mode is a very, very real thing and I'm totally succumbing to its influence.

From top to bottom, left to right:

1). A flutter sleeve top to dress the babe in next summer;

2). This braided up-do, because I'm trying to master how to appear stylish with my hair completely off my face & neck (humidity is no joke);

3). A sweet sentiment to hang in the bedroom, recently purchased from the MOMA store;

4). A new rug (and bold color palette!) in the living room. I keep imagining how much time we'll spend on the floor in the months to come and want to refresh the space.

5). This ceramic toast plate. Highly impractical, but adorable nonetheless.

6). Baby knits. Especially of the playsuit variety.

7). These woven placemats, because I'm tired of wiping the kitchen table down after every meal (shaking something out just sounds less arduous).

8). Chocolate espresso cinnamon rolls for when the temperatures dip and I can fathom actually turning the oven on.

9). A cozy, light-weight robe to curl up in this fall when nothing else in my wardrobe fits.

Watermelon Bubblegum

It's that time of year when everything is watermelon, bubblegum and orange creamsicle: I don't hate it one bit. Here are a few favorites inspired by summer's boldest colors...

1). Citrus Art! I would hang an oversized version of this in my kitchen.

2). The perfect pop of red by Ilia Beauty (all natural, too).

3). Giant confetti balloons. Hey mom? Maybe we can incorporate a few of these into my baby shower this fall?

4). A polka-dotted children's ukulele just because it's adorable.

5). The most gorgeous set of building blocks...ever.

6). I'm quickly learning that baby rompers are my biggest weakness in life.

7). A favorite book for little hands by none other than Hervé Tullet.

8). This beet, avocado & fried goat cheese salad is what all my culinary dreams are made of.

9). Britt Bass Turner's original paintings on canvas and wood = happymakers.

Park Güell // Barcelona

Hands down, the most magical place in Barcelona we visited was Park Güell, designed by Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudí. It feels silly for me to try and describe the beauty here, because truly, there aren't adequate words.

I revisited my folder containing over 1,000 images from the Barcelona portion of our trip and felt immediately drawn to this set when deciding what to share first. The reason I'm not looking at the camera in any of the above pictures is because it was approximately 900 degrees and oppressively sunny, which made looking directly upwards or outwards almost painful (I promise I was happy!). That's also why I have a scarf turban on my head--sunblock alone wasn't cutting it.

I couldn't stop zeroing in on the mosaic tile work located in the main terrace area of the park. I remember thinking, damn, there's no way I'm going to get any decent shots with the midday sun and hoards of people around (obviously less than ideal photo conditions), but I'm pretty thrilled with these.

Gaudí is that incredible.

P.S. Lots of Barcelona (and more Paris) coming soon.

An Afternoon At The MET

This past Friday afternoon, Emma and I had a sister date at the MET. After meeting, we wandered through the Sackler wing to check out the Temple of Dendur and Charles Engelhard Court. Both rooms are super light-filled and so pretty (here's a peek on instagram).

Next, we rode the elevator up to the 5th floor to see the roof garden and grab a drink.

Admittedly, it was hot and crowded up there, so after taking in the views, we opted to forgo the café and retreat back inside the museum where we detoured over to the Modern wing (my favorite). I love how the bright, bold colors in the contemporary paintings pop against the white walls and blonde wood floors.

Emma just happened to coordinate perfectly with the art!

After working up our appetites in the museum, we strolled down the Upper East Side before settling in for a yummy Italian lunch at Bella Blu.

As always, thanks for the fun afternoon, sistah bean.

P.S. An afternoon at the Louvre. I find it fascinating how much this post visually contrasts with that one. The Louvre is so fancy and ornate and...French.

Smile, You're On Camera

That's the translation above those butt cheeks. I observed several people walk past the graffiti and smile broadly, so it would appear the artist was successful in his or her message.

All of this street art was seen on Rue des Rosiers in the Marais. A favorite spot for sure.

Musée du Louvre

On a particularly hot day in Paris, we decided to spend the afternoon exploring the Louvre. Museums have always been a huge source of inspiration for me and this one immeasurably surpassed my expectations.

We knew we couldn't feasibly tour it all in one visit--the place is seriously enormous!--so we started out in search of Cupid & Psyche and then wandered over to find the Mona Lisa. We got lost along the way but had loads of fun figuring out where to turn next. We ended up touring several different floors, thus seeing more than we originally planned, which was great.

After about three hours, we decided we'd gotten our tickets' worth and headed out for a stroll and cold drink in the (very sunny) Tuileries gardens. All in all, an afternoon well-spent.

Five fun facts about the Louvre:

-It is the largest and most visited museum in the world.
-The oldest artworks date back over 7,000 (!) years.
-Before it became a museum in 1793, the palace originally served as a fortress and later a residence to multiple french kings.
-It takes 2,000+ employees to maintain the museum and all of the art.
-The collection is comprised of over 1 million works of art, of which 35,000 are on display at any given time.

Procrastination Station

Sometimes you need a little weekend cheer on a Monday, amiright? Loving this painting by Helena Wurzel for Kate Spade Saturday as I sit here eating a bowl of mango and masterfully ignoring my list of super fun things to accomplish today (laundry, entering business expenses into excel, swiffering the floors, etc.).

How's your day going so far? Send some motivation my way if you have any extra to spare!

P.S. A sweet read: The Joy of Old Age (via the NY Times).

Happy Walls

I recently added this baby giraffe print to the main wall in our living room. So far, it's the only piece of art I've purchased for the new place, and it makes me grin every time I walk through the front door.

Sharon Montrose pretty much has the coolest job ever.

Making a List, Checking it Twice

This wish list is mostly for Emma's benefit, as she always asks me what I want for Christmas/birthdays and then ends up buying something off my blog. A smart one she is, that sister of mine. Here's what I came up with based on my laptop's open browser tabs. (Speaking of which, Tiho wants to design me a t-shirt displaying my personal catchphrase: "Don't close my tabs!" (No, but seriously, never ever close my tabs).

ONE: My favorite perfume. I've been out for over six months and haven't gotten around to reordering.
TWO: The Hat Book. A collection of images by one of my all-time favorite photographers.
THREE: A yellow coffee/tea pot. Because it's super duper cute.
FOUR: Leather Stud Wallet. Simple, classic, stylish, & well-made. (I'd use this for years).
FIVE: Vintage Kaj Franck Heart Bowl. Dream collector's item (aka, always on my ultimate wish list).
SIX: Original Lulie Wallace Art Print. This would be a lovely addition to my collection.
SEVEN: Little Flower Cookbook. I love the name. And the recipes sound delicious.
EIGHT: Chemex 6-Cup Glass Coffee Maker. How is it possible I don't already own this?
NINE: Gradiated Striped Rug, size 9x12. Unbeatable price for the quality & size.
TEN: Clybourn Loft Chair. Two words: green velvet.

I couldn't resist putting together a photo-themed gift guide (even though this hilarious post portrays exactly how I feel about gift guide mania). It would thrill me to receive any of the ten items included here. Perhaps it will inspire a purchase for the snap-happy person in your life.

Things I Like, V. 15

Oh man. It's that time of year where I start poking around online in search of holiday gifts for loved ones and grow more and more greedy by the hour.

Not-Lame New York

I feel like there are a disproportionate amount of super cheesy NYC-themed souvenirs compared to offerings in other cities. Maybe I just notice it because I pass through one of the most touristy sections of New York twice daily.

I possess a deep pride for this city though, especially in light of everything she's currently slammed with, and felt compelled to round up some decidedly not-lame tchotchke gift ideas. Because really, NYC is the bomb dot com, even though my use of that phrase clearly indicates that I am not.

1). NYC in a Bag; 2). Rifle Paper Co. Art Print; 3). Kate Spade Taxi Mittens; 4). Andy Burgess Times Square Art Print; 5). Brass Apple Figurine; 6).Tom Slaughter New York Valentine Print; 7). Bridge & Tunnel Mug; 8). Sugar Paper Letterpress Print.

Give & Take

It's been an adjustment settling into the (busy) routine of a new school year, mostly because I've severely cut back on almost all social media outlets due to lack of time. I wish I knew how to spin the clock hands in my favor, but for now, I am grateful for my steadily improving health (goodbye nasty cold and laryngitis!) and falling quick in love with the sweetest batch of three-year-olds ever. I have a feeling we're going to have the most splendid year together.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. It's a long one for me, which is such a treat.
Now, a few fun things:

This is exactly how I feel about facebook, which is probably why I don't log on too often.
A History of New York in 50 Objects. Absolutely fascinating.
I can't get enough of this hilarious site.
You're Already Real.
Adorable art print.
