Teaching Preschool, V.1
Year six of teaching, here we go! Later next week, I'll welcome a fresh crop of 3 and 4 year-olds to my classroom. I spent the better part of yesterday preparing all of the necessary paperwork (parent packet, schedule, center labels, etc.) and started drafting out curriculum projects and supply lists for September. We still have a few classroom prep days left next week, so I'm feeling pretty good about where things stand.
I thought it might be fun to start a sub-series documenting stories, curriculum ideas and reflections about teaching preschool. Perhaps it will be useful for some of you, or at the very least, amusing.
To kick things off, let's play a game I like to call "hilarious things my students say that I remembered to write down."
Volume 1:
"When I'm a grown up mommy, I'm gonna have two babies and name them "sweet" and "candy."
"My favorite color is definitely sparkly rainbow."
"Chicken is good but only the nugget kind."
"Peace is holding hands, blowing kisses, and sharing your toys even when you really don't want to."
"When I go to school, Daddy goes to work and does his boring office things."
"There were no iPads in the olden days. Are you from the olden days?"
"Just give me all of the stickers or I will NOT be okay."
"Today, I'm half Clark Kent and half Superman. If you need any saving, come get me: I'll be under the slide."
"You know why I like you as my teacher? Because you're cool and cute. And you smell like cake."
"I'm going to be a flower girl in a wedding. And you know who the ring bearer is? Jesus!"
"I live on New York City, not earth."
"Everyone should be nice and show love. Like President Obama."
"A zombie is a dead monster."
"There is only one way to get to the moon and it's very expensive."
"Spaghetti is good but pizza is better. Everyone knows this."
"What day am I in?"
"I am three and yesterday I was two and later I'll be three and half."
"Corn is like a food, candy is not."
'Ms. Kayla, I decided I'll marry you AND mommy."
"I really wish I had a puppy or a dinosaur."
"For real life, I saw fairies behind the fence."
"Kids are humans, just not tall ones."

ReplyDeleteMy fave quotes from this first week of kindergarten...
ReplyDelete"Mrs Pugh, I just LOVE this place!"
"Those lights aren't working. Do you want me to ask my dad to come and fix them?"
Re: a particularly umm... spirited/lively/rambunctious/really-not-ready-for-school little boy: "I have an idea. .What if we just don't invite him back tomorrow?"
"I have bones you know. If I didn't, I'd be all wobbly."
Happy September!
