Peter Rabbit, And Thoughts On Blog Content

I've never really known where I fit into the world of blogging. I become more excited over the discovery of an amazing children's toy than I do over a pair of shoes (although I do have a weakness for handbags). I love taking pictures of my breakfast but possess no real interest in detailing step-by-step recipes. Beautiful writing sends shivers down my spine, but overt "inspirational talk" makes me roll my eyes and smirk. An impeccable living space will stay on my mind for days, but my brain will completely tune out upon reading a how-to-get-this-look design guide.

I write about what I like and don't bother wasting time with the things I don't. There's no "niche" here. Personally, I don't really think you need one to be a successful blogger. You just need to be interesting. And you do that by being interested.

What's interesting to me is when people share what they like and convey why they like it in a unique way.

I like Peter Rabbit. I am planning a hefty spring unit based around this classic children's story and am so, so excited about it.

I mean, look what you can do with Peter Rabbit and kids! You can plant seeds. You can harvest a vegetable garden. You can visit the farmer's market. You can discuss morality and rule-following. You can bake carrot cake. You can act out dramatizations. You can conduct a scientific rabbit study. And these are just a few ideas I've tossed around in these pre-planning stages.

P.S. Can you imagine the sheer wonder of a Peter Rabbit-themed kid's party? I think a genius business idea would be to start an event-planning company based solely on children's literature. Endless possibilities there.

P.P.S. The new Peter Rabbit for Gap collection is adorable. I was unable to resist the draw of a teeny-tiny white eyelet dress to be tucked away for my someday daughter...which she'll obviously wear while we read Peter Rabbit together in our backyard garden.

  5. My friend just had a peter rabbit themed baby shower and it was beautiful. It was a pleasure being her photographer with all the pretty details. The decorator even included the book casually on the side of the cake table, which I thought was genius, many people forget tiny little details like that are the best. And like I've said before, I love your blog, you never know what youre going to post next, and somehow its always inspirational to me since we share many interests.

    1. The blogs I like most always surprise me. I never know what to expect aside from the fact that the post is likely going to be thoughtful and interesting. That's what I strive for here, so it means a lot that it translates that way.

  6. I appreciate that you don't have a niche for your wonderful blog! It's refreshing, real and a joy to read. And your photography - unaltered - is beautiful. You've got it going on! :)

    1. Thanks, Katherine. You are kind! I only feel like I've got it going on about 30% of the time. The rest, I just pretend.

  8. Not sure how I stumbled across your blog but glad I did. I find it very fun and interesting. I relate to the "eclectic" vibe it has! I also work well with children and can relate to your imaginative ideas for curriculum planning. I think your idea of a party business centered on children's literature would be a blast! You seem very genuine and kind hearted-whimsical-all wonderful qualities that children value!

  9. I totally relate to not feeling like my blog has a niche. But I find that blogs like yours that don't necessarily have a particular "theme" or topic are often my favorite. And that Gap stuff... I seriously might have to be that crazy childless later and buy some of it for later :) XX Jessica
