Scenes From The Weekend

I'm stuck in the middle right now; desperate to hold on to the lingering remnants of summer yet eager to welcome the newness of autumn.

Normally, I find myself excited for the cyclical change of season. It's just that this particular summer was extra good to me and nostalgia isn't so keen on letting go of its tight grip on my wrist. I'm also feeling nervous about all of the significant changes coming--a new school, new classroom, new children, new colleagues.

It feels like time is slipping through my fingers.

Spending the weekend on the Cape did little to quell the dichotomy. It was a perfect two-day respite, which only triggered an even greater sense of disillusionment that busy-busy September is just days away.

And yet, I'm dizzy with excitement for the next few months: a lot of beautiful things waiting there just around the corner.

Ah, conundrums. For now, I'll sit at my kitchen table and reminisce about midnight bonfires on the beach, alfresco family dinners and wine time with cousins. Thanks, Cape Cod: you never fail me.

  3. I've never been to Cape Cod, but every time I've seen photos, it captures my heart again. Your weekend there looks so thoroughly relaxing, and while I know you don't want the summer to end, I know the autumn is bringing lots of goodies your way.

  4. Yep. I knew it. I knew I'd want to go even more once I saw your photos of the Cape...

I know how you're feeling about the impending arrival of fall. I feel it, too. No matter what we do, it will come. So let's enjoy every last second of summer!

I always feel so much more relaxed a day or two after change hits.

  7. I just want to give you a great big old hug, then take you shopping for school supplies. Not having any excuse to buy new pencils or pens or binders or lined paper is just too awful.

  8. As a teacher myself (although not at the moment) I know those mixed end of August feelings well too. Even though Autumn is my favourite time of year I still found this change-over time very difficult.

Enjoy every second you can Kayla xx

  9. Kimia, I just laughed out loud. Somehow, this seems completely plausible. Probably my favorite photo too.

  13. You know people are already in school here?! I could have sworn school in Europe started in September. Funny thing is, the town where I lived in Indiana.. they started school on the same day! Last week. So, luckily, you've still got this month! :) I know what you mean, though, this month is on fast forward or something! I don't even know if I'm going to school next month (I still have some hope!), but it does feel like a completely new and different chapter up ahead (if I go..). Good luck with all things new, Kayla.
