I Love It When This Happens

I keep a small notebook where I record inspiring quotations, poetry and short passages from books. It is easily one of my most prized possessions and where I regularly turn to for inspiration, wisdom, comfort and enlightenment.

I rarely search for quotations. I find it so much more authentic when meaningful words find me. It's fascinating to read back through the notebook and be able to get a sense of what was important or influential to me at certain times in my life. (For example, during the months surrounding my college graduation a few years ago, there were lots of quotations about teaching and new beginnings).

I just added these two by Po Bronson. I didn't even know who Po Bronson was when I read them, but they moved me--tremendously--so he's a cool dude as far as I'm concerned (and once I researched him, I realized I did know him, or at least I've heard of his books).

"I'd rather help than watch. I'd rather have a heart than a mind. I'd rather expose too much than too little. I'd rather say hello to strangers than be afraid of them. I would rather know all this about myself than have more money than I need. I'd rather have something to love than a way to impress you."

and

"I used to want to change the world. Now I'm open to letting it change me.

I cannot even begin to explain how relative the aforementioned quotations are to where I am in life right now. I love it when this happens.
